Our History

Rutledge AV was founded in Melbourne in 1979 by Michael and Sandy Rutledge - who took a passion for engineering, and developed it into a ground-breaking business.

In the beginning, when the audio visual industry in Australia was just emerging, Rutledge AV established a name for itself by building, installing and monitoring live and recorded sound technologies for recording studios, venues and broadcast media. By 1985, the Company had become incorporated.

Due to the fast-evolving and ever-popular technology in the 1980’s, Rutledge Engineering - as we were originally called - delved into new markets and industries towards the end of the decade. We quickly became the foremost company to offer audio visual integration services in Australia - setting the standard for audio visual engineering and integration in the country.

Through the 1990’s technology transformed even further. The requirements and demand for audio visual integration grew - and so did the Company. In 1999 Rutledge AV expanded to include an office in Sydney – which was followed by new offices in Perth, Brisbane, Adelaide, Canberra and Darwin.

We have worked with all types of organisations, from all types of industries. We have delivered systems for corporate spaces; educational institutions; government offices and Council amenities; judicial and legal facilities; defence headquarters; mining, construction and transportation services; retail developments; and entertainment, cultural and sporting venues.

Rutledge AV was one of the first companies to branch into the field of audio visual integration, and to this day continues to be an Australian audio visual pioneer – endlessly championing new technologies, new environments and new demands.

We hold a true national footprint - with projects delivered across all eight Australian states and territories, and over 300 staff based nationwide.
